Preparing for UNGA
With the end of the summer at hand, many of us are already looking past Labor Day toward the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), which is taking place September 18 – 26 in New York City. We’ve had questions from many GHC members as to what to focus on and how best to navigate the various official convenings and side events. To help our community make the most of your time in New York — or engage from afar — we have compiled information and resources we hope you will find useful.
For the past several months, our team has been coordinating with the community to prepare for the High Level Meetings (HLMs). We have been working to ensure our messages are aligned and to gather input on the draft statements:
- Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response on September 20
- Universal Health Coverage on September 21
- Tuberculosis on September 22
Though in-person attendance for the HLMs is very limited — and registration has, in fact, already closed — the meetings can be viewed live on UN WebTV.
There will be many side events taking place over the course of the nine days and we are tracking those in which GHC members are involved. If you are planning an event on the margins of UNGA, please let us know by submitting your event to our community calendar so that we can help amplify your efforts.
In addition, on September 7 we will be hosting an UNGA 101 webinar to provide additional details on how best to engage during that very busy week. Registration for the webinar is open and can be accessed here.
We look forward to hearing of your plans for UNGA and to seeing many of you in person in New York. In the meantime, enjoy these last days of summer and be sure to rest up for a busy fall!
