Global Forum on Global Health Governance and Emerging Geopolitical Risks

May 28, 2024 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

As pandemics, wars, and climate change escalate geopolitical tensions, they challenge global health governance and disproportionately affect countries with less geopolitical power, leading to severe health consequences.

For instance, during the COVID-19 pandemic, tense US-China relations and rising nationalism have led to vaccine nationalism and diplomacy, and distrust in WHO, weakening global solidarity. In the negotiations of pandemic agreements, we continuously see the intervention of geopolitics, making the actual provisions of the agreements less reformative than initially promised by the member states. The world has also unfortunately witnessed the damage to human safety and health brought by geopolitical conflicts like the Russia-Ukraine war and the Gaza Strip conflict, posing setbacks to global health governance.

In this forum, we will discuss the impact of geopolitics on global health governance and invite experts from various fields including policy, AI/IT, and public health to offer perspectives and solutions from different angles.
