GHC Statement on Engagement with Non-State Actors at the 148th Session of the WHO Executive Board

January 25, 2021

The following statement from Global Health Council was submitted to the 148th session of the WHO Executive Board on Agenda Item 19.5: Report on the implementation of the Framework of Engagement with Non-State Actors.

Global Health Council thanks the Executive Board for the opportunity to comment on the Framework of Engagement with Non-State Actors. As we have previously stated, non state actors play a critical role in delivering products and programs to the frontlines. We must note the high value of nongovernmental partnerships and social participation at the community level, contributions to the community health workforce, research and development, and other engagement for the delivery of services products, and information. Continued meaningful participation will be critical to achieving the goals that we all mutually wish to achieve. We are glad to see recommendations that include pre-event consultative sessions and hope they will be implemented soon and accessible to as many stakeholders as possible. However we hope that there will be multiple opportunities to work in concert with WHO and Member States before, during, and after future Assembly and Executive Board Meetings. Global Health Council looks forward to continuing a strong working relationship with the World Health Organization and with Member States.
