Global Health Council Executive Director to Advise President-elect Biden on COVID-19

November 09, 2020

Global Health Council congratulates President-elect Joe Biden, Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris, and each of the incoming members of the 117th Congress. In particular, we applaud the president-elect’s commitment to reengaging with World Health Organization and standing up a new COVID-19 advisory board of leading public health experts who will advise President-elect Biden, Vice President-elect Harris, and the Transition’s COVID-19 staff.

“Dealing with the coronavirus pandemic is one of the most important battles our administration will face, and I will be informed by science and by experts,” said President-elect Biden.

In the short term, immediate action is still needed to bolster the U.S. global response to COVID-19. We urge Congress to provide at least $20 billion in emergency supplemental funding for the health and humanitarian programs that have been adversely affected by the pandemic. We also believe that a  bold and powerful global health agenda is long overdue, coupled with resources to support new initiatives. The U.S. should reemerge from this crisis stronger than ever to do what is required in pursuit of health for all worldwide.
