WASHINGTON, May. 27, 2015 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — Global Health Council (GHC) brought a large delegation to the recent 68th World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva, Switzerland. The WHA is the annual meeting of the World Health Organization (WHO) and brings together member states, WHO leadership and non-state actors once a year to debate global health policy and discuss the most pressing global health issues. GHC submitted seven statements to the official record of the WHA including positions on anti-microbial resistance, training of frontline health workers and maternal, newborn and child health.

GHC, founded in 1972 and comprised of over 80 member organizations and hundreds of individual members, has a long and distinguished history of bringing together diverse actors in a neutral setting to debate and coordinate around global health priorities and concerns. After going through a comprehensive reorganization in 2013, GHC is proud to once again bring together actors from across the global health landscape, including non-governmental and private sector development partners, academia, research, foundations and corporate institutions to advance evidence-based global health policy and advocacy. Through the actions of its platforms and members, GHC is committed to supporting the World Health Organization, the world’s premier policy-setting body for health.

While at WHA, GHC joined with its partners to host a number of unofficial side events bringing together a wide variety of experts and stakeholders. Through the “Moving the Health Goal Forward” workshop, GHC convened civil society organizations to examine the challenge of measuring the impact of health interventions and promoting accountability. In a second event, stakeholders from civil society, government and the private sector came together to discuss global health partnerships.

As a global organization dedicated to the goal of health for all, GHC promotes full participation by stakeholders in shaping the future of global health. Through resources such as the Global Health Briefing Book released in March 2015 and strategic conversations organized through the Global Health Leadership Series, GHC and its members analyze the challenges and explore solutions to the most pressing health issues facing the global population. GHC will continue this engagement throughout 2015 and beyond at venues such as the Financing for Development Conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in July; the United Nations General Assembly in New York City in September; and at the Business Action on Health Awards and Global Health Landscape Symposium in Washington, D.C. in November.
