Galvanizing Global Coordination for the COVID-19 Response

September 22, 2021

Dear Global Health Advocates,

I am Elisha Dunn-Georgiou, President and CEO of Global Health Council. My first week and a half at GHC has been busy! I couldn’t be prouder to represent GHC and our network of advocates at today’s virtual Global COVID-19 Summit: Ending the Pandemic and Building Back Better, hosted by President Biden. At the summit, I joined leaders of other nonprofits, international organizations, the private sector, and heads of state in committing to end the COVID-19 pandemic. Today’s summit was an important moment to galvanize and reset our global COVID-19 response. The calls for collective action we heard from governments, civil society, and philanthropists all hold promise, but only if those bold statements are turned into concrete actions with accountability. The devastation of this pandemic requires that we urgently act to save lives now with much-needed donations of vaccines and resources to low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). COVID-19 has also shown us that we must simultaneously address the current pandemic while preparing for the next global health security threat.

We must build stronger, more equitable, resilient, and inclusive health systems that serve our pandemic preparedness efforts moving forward.  And we must work together to build equitable partnerships and close the gaps between wealthy nations and LMICs.

As you will see in the video below, Global Health Council stands ready to leverage our resources and network to help end this pandemic and strengthen global health security now and in the future. In collaboration with our members, GHC will continue to mobilize experts, advocates, and policymakers to increase equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines and other tools.

This is a time for the world to come together to urgently address COVID-19 globally.  This moment requires ambition, innovation, and accountability. Global Health Council is committed, now more than ever, to combating the pandemic, ensuring health systems worldwide are resilient, and providing access to quality, effective healthcare for all with special attention to marginalized and underrepresented populations.

I look forward to advocating alongside this passionate community in my capacity as President and CEO of GHC. Be on the lookout for a more in-depth recap on the summit in GHC’s newsletter on Monday, September 27.

All my best,

Elisha Dunn-Georgiou
