SUMMARY:SwitchPoint Virtual Exchange COVID-19: Back to the Future
DESCRIPTION:Organized by SwitchPoint \nSwitchPoint Virtual Exchange COVID-19: Back to the Future\nApril 23\, 2021\nRSVP\nCOVID-19 has changed our perspectives. What we thought we knew about pandemics\, vaccines\, economics\, equity\, affordable design\, and global disaster preparedness has been turned upside-down—a chilling illustration of the phrase “hindsight is 2020.” \nSo we’ve asked experts from around the world to look back at their own words and warnings from their past SwitchPoint talks. We’ll hear from the research science magician who felt like he’d lost his magic until he started working on the vaccine. From a screen-printing biology professor and the Tokyo-based artist with perhaps the most challenging name in an era of social distancing (TOUCHY!). And from renowned global health leaders\, government officials\, engineers\, economists\, fashion designers\, and more. \nFind out how these creative minds have coped with one of the greatest challenges of our time\, and what they now see ahead for all of us on the horizon. \nAre you hosting an event soon? Share your event with us by emailing events@globalhealth.org. And\, stay up-to-date with the news from the global health community by signing up for our monthly newsletter.

SUMMARY:E2A:How Do We Break the Plateau We See in Mother-to-Child HIV Transmission?
DESCRIPTION:Organized by The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation \nE2A:How Do We Break the Plateau We See in Mother-to-Child HIV Transmission?\nApril 27\, 2021\nRSVP\n\nWith optimal access to antiretroviral formulations\, a pregnant HIV-positive woman has a very minimal risk of transmitting HIV to her infant through pregnancy\, delivery\, or breastfeeding. HIV infection rates remain high in some countries\, particularly among women of reproductive age\, and access to ARVs is not a guarantee. ARV access to prevent vertical transmission is further strained in some settings due to social distancing guidelines in place for COVID-19. \nIn this webinar\, we’ll discuss current trends in mother-to-child HIV transmission and prevention access. We’ll discuss gains\, and gains lost over the last year. We’ll also discuss novel strategies and innovations that could turn the tide on a worrying trend. Our agenda includes voices from across the field: partners\, leaders\, experts\, field-based staff\, and a beneficiary of prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission services. \nAgenda: \n\nOpening remarks: Chip Lyons\, EGPAF President and CEO\nFollowing the data/latest MTCT research: Dorothy Mbori-Ngacha\, UNICEF HIV Specialist\nThe MTCT plateau in DRC: Dr. Vicky Ilunja\, EGPAF Technical Director\, DRC\nGlobal innovations strengthening PMTCT: Dr. Lynne Mofenson\, EGPAF Sr Research Advisor\nLearnings from Eswatini around MTCT success\, Dr. Christopher Makwindi\nThe PMTCT journey\, a client experience: Dee Mphafi\, EGPAF-Lesotho Youth Advisor\nQ&A\n\n\n\nAre you hosting an event soon? SUMMARY:Immunization Agenda 2030: Equitable Health Access for All
DESCRIPTION:Organized by Shot@Life\, USAID\, MOMENTUM\, International Vaccine Access Center (IVAC)\, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health \nImmunization Agenda 2030: Equitable Health Access for All\nApril 28\, 2021\nRSVP\n\n \n\n\nDuring World Immunization Week 2021\, the International Vaccine Access Center\, Shot@Life\, and MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership will co-host a panel event to highlight how the COVID-19 [pandemic has exposed and exacerbated global health inequities\, and how the new Immunization Agenda 2030 Framework for Action charts a path to equitable immunization coverage for everyone. \nOver the past decade\, much progress has been made towards increasing routine immunization for children\, but many challenges remain. \nAlthough the COVID-19 pandemic has taken a massive toll on the world\, it is time to look not just at the challenges but also at the opportunities. Now is the time to energize a global movement and collective accountability to make vaccines equitably accessible to everyone. The Immunization Agenda 2030 creates a clear vision of a world where everyone\, everywhere\, at every age fully benefits from vaccines for good health and well-being. Diseases do not respect borders; neither should our fight for full global immunization. \nOur esteemed panel of advocates and immunization experts do a deep dive into what it will take to make that vision a reality in the next decade: How will gaps in immunization coverage and equity be addressed\, especially among marginalized and disadvantaged groups in low- and middle-income countries? How will immunization systems identify children who have never been vaccinated\, ensuring they don’t miss out on protection from deadly disease? \nModerated by Cynthia Gorney\, National Geographic Magazine \nPanelists:\nAnn Lindstrand\, Unit Head of the EPI and the Department of Immunization\, Vaccines and Biologicals at WHO\nChizoba Wonodi\, Immunization Director for USAID’s MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership project\, and Nigeria Country Director at IVAC\nMartha Rebour\, ED of the UN Foundation’s Shot@Life campaign\nLubna Hashmat\, CEO of the Civil Society Human and Institutional Development Programme \nAre you hosting an event soon? SUMMARY:Tuberculosis and Diabetes: Why Integrated Care Matters | Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Organized by RTI International  \nTuberculosis and Diabetes: Why Integrated Care Matters | Webinar\nApril 29\, 2021\nRSVP\n\nCOVID-19 has challenged governments and the public health community to consider how to manage the synergistic effects of pandemic infection\, endemic infectious disease\, and the noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) that are now among the leading causes of death around the world. \nThe connection between tuberculosis (TB) and diabetes has been known for many years – people with TB are more likely to develop diabetes and diabetes triples the risk of developing TB\, compared to people without those co-morbidities. But now COVID-19 has further exacerbated these linkages. People living with NCDs like diabetes are more likely to develop severe cases and die from COVID-19\, and there is evidence that patients with TB are at increased risk for COVID-19\, putting millions at risk. \nIntegrating preventive and treatment interventions to address diabetes within TB care is essential to addressing these dangerous co-morbidities and achieving more equitable care for all. However\, health systems in low- and middle- income countries often face challenges in integrating NCD and infectious disease care due to the siloed nature of health funding and education. \nJoin us to hear a diverse group of global health experts discuss how to address the increasingly urgent issue of multi-morbidity and share different examples of integrated TB and diabetes care – from clinical to country and global perspectives. \nModerator: \n\nErin Eckert\, Ph.D\, Director of Infectious Diseases\, RTI International\n\nSpeakers: \n\nErlina Burhan\, MD\, MSc. Ph.D\, Pulmonologist\, University of Indonesia\nJohn Paul Dongo\, Project Coordinator\, The Union Uganda Office\, International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease\nSalah Foraida\, Senior Director for Medical Affairs\, TB Alliance\nRachel Nugent\, Ph.D\, Vice President and Director of the Center for Global Noncommunicable Diseases\, RTI International\nMiriam Schneidman\, Former Lead Health Specialist\, World Bank\n\n\n\nAre you hosting an event soon? SUMMARY:Week of Action
DESCRIPTION:Organized by UNA-USA \nWeek of Action\nJune 6-11\, 2021\n\n\nThis summer\, you’ll have the opportunity to speak directly with your Members of Congress to urge them to support fully funding our UN dues and maintaining strong U.S. leadership at the UN during our virtual Week of Action June 6-11! With two days of programming and time devoted to meeting with your elected officials\, this is a great opportunity to fine-tune your advocacy skills and speak up for the UN’s lifesaving work. \nOver the last few months\, the Biden-Harris Administration has taken initial steps to reaffirm our country’s commitment to global engagement and to strengthen our relationship with the UN\, such as halting our intent to withdraw from the World Health Organization and rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement. And while we celebrate these recent wins\, we know there’s more work to do. The U.S. currently owes $1 billion in unpaid dues to the UN and UN Peacekeeping\, which threatens our country’s credibility and our ability to achieve key foreign policy objectives. \nThe stakes are high\, but with your help\, we can get the U.S. off the sidelines and #GetUSBack to working with the rest of the world in building a better global future. \nAll UNA-USA members are eligible to participate in Week of Action. Not yet a member? Activate your UNA-USA membership today! \n\nAre you hosting an event soon? Share your event with us by emailing events@globalhealth.org. And\, stay up-to-date with the news from the global health community by signing up for our monthly newsletter.
