World Vision Film Screening and Panel Discussion

October 9, 2020

On October 9th from 12:30- 1:30pm EST, World Vision is hosting a virtual film screening of the short documentary, Messania’s Story, which traces the life of one Kenyan woman, Messania. Told in her own words, the film brings attention to the harmful practice of female genital mutilation and cutting (FGM/C). The film will be followed by an expert panel discussion, in honor of International Day of the Girl (Oct. 11). The film recently won “Best Short Documentary”  at the Flicker’s Rhode Island International Film Fest. It is a powerful and compelling story that we cannot wait to share! The trailer is available here.

Given the deep connection between FGM/C and girls’ and women’s health, and in particular adolescent pregnancy – the leading cause of death for adolescent girls globally – this topic is crucial to the conversation about ending preventable maternal and child deaths.
