THET Annual Conference 2016:
Evidence, Effectiveness and Impact
October 20-21, 2016
Resource for London Centre
The annual conference ‘Evidence, Effectiveness and Impact’ looks at how health partnerships are changing the face of development.
THET’s annual conference, in association with Johnson & Johnson, is an opportunity to discuss new ideas, share experiences, and meet people who work every day to offer new solutions to old problems and change the face of development. Every year, the conference attracts the brightest thinkers in global health, bringing together the public and private sector, NGOs and civil society organisations from the global north and south. This year we’re giving delegates an opportunity to present their health partnership achievements and research in the form of oral presentations and poster displays. Watch this space for announcement of successful abstracts.
What is the conference about?
The conference will focus on the theme ‘Evidence, Effectiveness and Impact’ debating how health partnerships are changing the face of development and the role that they play in response to the challenges set by the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). We are entering an era in which traditional approaches to overseas aid are giving way to new forms of mutual benefits and co-learning. Health partnerships move the focus from the old paternalistic model of development to more patient centred solutions that are mutually developed with knowledge flowing both ways.
Speakers on both days will explore how the UK can best respond to the challenges thrown down by the SDGs, and in particular how health partnerships can deliver the transformative change required.
This year’s conference occurs at a critical moment in the history of the health partnership movement. By October, DFID will have completed its evaluation of the 2011-2016 health partnership approach and will be considering what future shape their support for this kind of work will look like. This is why we are placing such a great emphasis on evidence.
THET is also providing a platform for delegates to present health partnership achievements and research to date, in the form of oral presentations and poster displays. This is an opportunity for individuals and groups to showcase their work to a large audience of global health professionals, engage with other researchers, and make useful connections for future collaboration.
