The Role of Existing and New Vaccines in Curbing the Emergence and Spread of Drug Resistance in LMICs
May 27, 2024 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
The International Vaccine Institute (IVI) is organizing an event on the sidelines of the 77th World Health Assembly in partnership with the Governments of the Kingdom of Bhutan, Republic of El Salvador, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Republic of Korea, and the Kingdom of Sweden to explore an alignment between national vaccine strategies and efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in low- and middle-income countries.
Why is it crucial to integrate approaches to disease prevention and AMR containment? What challenges or barriers exist? Join us as we share best practices for minimizing the impact of AMR and sustaining the efficacy of current lifesaving antimicrobials.
Key topics will include:
- Identified challenges in aligning the AMR and vaccination agendas,
- LMIC and vaccine R&D for AMR pathogens,
- Opportunities and suggestions toward more effective interdisciplinary cooperation,
- Tools, methods, and technical assistance needed to support countries in evaluating the potential impact of current and new vaccines in mitigating the economic and health burden of AMR on their populations.
