Social Behavior Change and COVID-19

May 21, 2020

While the world awaits a cure and vaccine for COVID-19, we must rely on preventative behaviors to help save lives. Hand washing, physical distancing, and not touching one’s face are behaviors that the global community needs to embrace immediately.

But how do you get the message out? Changing our everyday behaviors is hard, and in remote and vulnerable communities, it’s an even greater challenge.

On Thursday, May 21 at 12pm EST, we’re going live with CEO Lois Quam and Pathfinder public health experts from around the world to discuss social behavior change strategies and how Pathfinder is leveraging them in response to COVID-19.

Lois Quam will be joined by the following panelists:

Reshma Trasi, MBBC, MHA, MPH, Pathfinder Project Director, (re)solve | Throughout her career, Trasi has designed and implemented research, performance monitoring, evaluation, and learning approaches for complex HIV and AIDS, health systems strengthening, reproductive health, water and sanitation, and gender programs. Trasi will share social behavior change principles that Pathfinder’s (re)solve project is using and how organizations worldwide are addressing behavior change messaging during the pandemic.

Dr. Salomon Rakotovazaha, Pathfinder Chief of Party, Tubiteho project| Dr. Rakotovazaha is a public health specialist with over 26 years of experience in international development, program planning and management for complex projects in Madagascar, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Rwanda. He will introduce Pathfinder’s Tubiteho project in Burundi which relies heavily on social behavior change practices, and discuss how COVID-19 response is being integrated into the project.

Dr. Tabinda Sarosh, Pathfinder Pakistan Country Director | Dr. Sarosh has led numerous successful advocacy campaigns around sexual and reproductive health and rights in Pakistan, notably that for Safe Abortion and Standardization of Age of Marriage. She also worked diligently to develop policy and action around gender-based violence, gender, and economic and social equality. Dr. Sarosh will provide insight on how Pathfinder’s work and behavior change methods in Pakistan are adapting.
