Sickle Cell Disease: A Neglected Non-Communicable Disease

September 23, 2025 @ 12:00 pm2:00 pm

The 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80) comes at a pivotal moment for global health.

Across Africa, communities continue to face persistent and emerging challenges — from outbreaks of mpox, cholera, and Ebola to the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

As the African Union’s specialized health agency, Africa CDC is positioning Africa’s voice, strengthening global health solidarity, and advancing the New Public Health Order at the continental level. UNGA80 provides an opportunity to elevate Africa’s priorities on the global stage, foster new partnerships, and drive action on issues that matter most to the continent’s health security and resilience.
