Who Lives? Who Dies? Who Pays? Who Decides?

Amid pressure to increase global agricultural productivity, rural food producers are facing rising prices for fertilizers, fuel, and other agricultural inputs as the ongoing effects of climate change create an uncertain future for their land and annual crop yields. International funding for food systems transformation must support small-scale producers who cannot keep up with rising costs, especially as food and fuel supplies from the Black Sea region remain unreliable.

How does the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) plan to protect small-scale producers as they face the ongoing impacts of climate change, Covid-19 disruptions, and global conflict? How can the international community continue to respond to the immediate impacts of today’s global food crisis while ensuring progress on long-term development goals? How can policymakers ensure complementarity, not overlap, among food security programming?

Please join the CSIS Global Food Security Program on October 12 at 2:00 p.m. ET as we welcome IFAD President Alvaro Lario for a keynote speech and armchair discussion on the Fund’s newest initiatives to protect rural livelihoods and the world’s most vulnerable agricultural communities, including IFAD’s Crisis Response Initiative and ASAP+.
