Reaching the First 90: A Webinar on Index Case Testing for HIV
July 11 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am
Organized by Management Sciences for Health
9:00 AM – 10:00 AM EDT
As we work toward the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) 90-90-90 targets, what methods can best help us reach 90 percent of all people living with HIV? How must traditional approaches to testing and outreach adapt to reach all sectors of society?
One strategy MSH and others have employed to reach the first 90 is index case testing. In index case testing, a person with confirmed HIV infection (an index case) is asked to contact family members (children, spouse, sexual partners, siblings, and parents) to invite them to be tested for HIV. With support from the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), index case testing has become an integral part of MSH projects in a number of countries.
How has MSH supported local partners to implement index case testing? What challenges have we faced and what promising practices have we identified? Join our webinar on July 11 at 9:00 AM EDT to hear case studies from the following three projects:
1) USAID Health for All Project in Angola – Thiago Costa, Responsible for Index Case Testing & Tracing Strategy
2) USAID Community HIV Care and Treatment (CHCT) Activity in Ethiopia – Asayehegn Tekeste, Deputy Chief of Party
3) District Health System Strengthening and Quality Improvement for Service Delivery (DHSS) Project in Malawi – Rose Nyirenda, Director of the Department of HIV and AIDS
