Radical Collaboration for Community Health during COVID-19 and Beyond

May 25, 2021

Community Health Workers (CHWs) are the backbone of resilient health systems. CHWs bring life-saving primary health services to the doorsteps of people living far from care. They have been critical first responders during the COVID-19 pandemic, while ensuring the continuity of life-saving primary care services — which is critical to universal health coverage. But how can we best support CHWs during the COVID-19 pandemic? And how can we ensure investment in CHWs strengthen health systems long-term to prevent the next pandemic and advance universal health coverage?

The Health Worker Training Initiative (HWTI) is a collaborative effort bringing together Johnson & Johnson, Eli Lilly and Company, Novartis, Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support Last Mile Health and Living Goods in training and empowering community health workers in up to 6 African countries. As the 74th World Health Assembly unfolds during this Year of the Health and Care Worker, join members and stakeholders of the HWTI for an in-depth conversation reflecting on the power of radical collaboration to support and drive investment in CHWs during the pandemic and beyond.
