Protecting the Future of Mothers and Children: Investing in Nutrition-Smart Safety Nets

October 7, 2020

RSVP

As part of its Better Nutrition-Better Tomorrow campaign, Bread for the World Institute will host a panel discussion on how Nutrition-Smart Safety Nets can help protect mothers and children against malnutrition in times of crisis and also help accelerate global progress on improving maternal and child nutrition through a systems approach.

The discussion will reflect upon the COVID-19 global crisis, including dire projections on global levels of child malnutrition as well as the unprecedented scale up of social protection measures by over 200 countries to protect vulnerable populations from the harsh economic impacts of the pandemic in the past 6 months. We will explore how safety net programs, which typically address poverty, can be targeted and designed to also address vulnerabilities related to malnutrition and improve access to nutritious foods, appropriate antenatal health and nutrition services, and optimal infant and young child feeding practices.

We hope you will join this session, moderated by Tanuja Rastogi, Senior Global Nutrition Policy Advisor, Bread for the World Institute in a conversation with a panel of experts:

Panelists:

  • Ugo Gentilini, Global Lead for Social Assistance, World Bank
  • Laura Cardinal, Chief of Party, NOURISH Cambodia, Save the Children
  • Allison Oman, Deputy Director, Nutrition Division, World Food Programme
