Pathways to action on clean air, climate and health
May 22 @ 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm
Momentum at the intersection of health, climate and clean air action has accelerated in the past 12 months, with the adoption of the WHA77 resolution on climate change and health and inclusion of climate and health as the first pillar of WHO’s 14th General Programme of Work. At WHA78, the adoption of the global action plan on climate and health (GAP) alongside the WHO Clean Air roadmap, with its target of a 50% reduction the health impacts of air pollution by 50% by 2040, and an integrated lung health resolution provide a compelling cadre of commitments. As the health impacts of climate change and air pollution continue to grow, this momentum must now be translated into transformational action across sectors in every country to reduce emissions, and build resilience to protect people and the planet.
In a time of complex geopolitics and an evolving multilateral landscape, it is more important than ever to be attentive to variations in national context and tailored pathways towards our common goals of a safe planet for all. This panel will explore how governments, public health leaders and communities can help drive policy and programme change, and practical pathways to just and healthy transitions for all.
