The Wilson Center presents:

Improving Maternal Health Through Universal Health Coverage

Thursday, February 20, 2014
12:00-2:00 pm
The Wilson Center, 5th Floor Conference Room

Featuring: Dr. Ana Langer, Harvard University and Dr. Jonathan Quick, Management Sciences for Health and GHC Board Chair

With maternal mortality and other women’s health targets among those lagging furthest behind in the soon-to-expire Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), new thinking is needed to better address gender-based health inequities. At the same time, universal health coverage is expected to figure prominently in any post-MDG development framework. Evidence from Afghanistan, Mexico, Rwanda, and Thailand demonstrates the potential of universal health coverage to improve women’s health outcomes and equity, while offering vital insights about how to strengthen the design, implementation, and measurement of universal health coverage schemes elsewhere.

Maternal health and universal health coverage must be a shared agenda reflected in both national- and global-level efforts, particularly in the context of an emerging post-2015 development framework. Join us for a presentation and discussion about these increasingly critical issues.
