Good Governance to Tackle NCDs in the EMR

Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) are the world’s leading cause of death and a major agent in morbidity and disability. Commonly known as chronic or lifestyle-related diseases, they include cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic respiratory diseases, diabetes among others. Globally, two-thirds (71%, WHO 2021) of deaths are attributed to NCDs, with low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) bearing 77% of the burden of these prematurely occurring deaths. Many of these deaths are preventable through lifestyle-related changes and cost-effective interventions implemented by national governments. Due to the nature of NCDs, multi- and intersectoral synergized governance approaches are needed, cutting across different levels and sectors to achieve sustainable and equal outcomes for all. This Webinar provides a convening platform of expertise at the global, regional, and country levels for knowledge exchange, discussing NCD governance, health, and wellbeing.

The webinar session will focus on:
• Shedding a light on the importance of good governance to combat NCDs and highlighting the main determinants of current challenges affecting good governance
• Sharing best practices through diverse learnings from global, regional, and country experiences.
• Discussing the element of governance and conceptual models to assess governance at national level.
• Proposing applicable, sustainable, and innovative strategies to maintain and improve governance
