Global Immunization Progress in Jeopardy: Surging Measles Outbreaks

Thursday, May 30, 2019
2:00 PM – 3:30 PM

Rayburn House Office Building
Gold Room (2168)
45 Independence Ave SW
Washington, DC 20515

Hosted in collaboration with PATH, UNICEF and UNICEF USA, American Red Cross, CDC, and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.

Since 2000, the global partnership of the Measles & Rubella Initiative has spearheaded work with countries to help reduce measles deaths by 84%.  Despite this accomplishment, largescale measles outbreaks in countries like the Philippines, Madagascar, and Venezuela have contributed to a 30 percent increase in global cases. In the U.S., high-profile measles outbreaks in Washington and New York are sounding alarm bells with public health officials and in Congress. Join us for a conversation on the current state of global childhood immunization progress.

  • Peter Yeo Moderator, President, Better World Campaign
  • Robb Linkins, Chief, Disease Eradication and Elimination Branch, Global Immunization Division, U.S. CDC
  • Lissy Moskowitz, Senior U.S. Advocacy Manager, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance
  • Guillermo Garcia, Executive Director, International Response & Programs, American Red Cross
  • Robert Kezaala, Senior Health Adviser, UNICEF

Light hors d’oeuvre will be served.
