Filling the Gap: Successful models to ensure community-led, evidence-based UHC for all

Tuesday, September 24, 2019
7:30 AM – 9:30 AM

Grand Hyatt New York
109 East 42nd Street
New York, NY

Breakfast starts at 7:30 am. Panel and discussion will take place from 8:00 am – 9:30 am.

The Political Declaration of the High-Level Meeting on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) highlights the need to increase domestic spending for health and calls for governments to spend at least 5% of their GDP on public spending for health. Yet, no low-income countries and only a few lower middle-income countries can reach this target. Can and should development assistance be used to fill this financing gap?

To ensure UHC for all, governments, donors and civil society organizations must invest in partnering with communities. Effective partnerships and efficient funding models are required to maximize equitable access to health for all, particularly poor and marginalized communities.

Join us for a multipart panel discussion to address the financing gap, highlighting successful funding models and partnerships for supporting community-led and evidence-based UHC. The discussion will be moderated by Loyce Pace, President & Executive Director of the Global Health Council and will feature speakers, including:

  • Ambassador Deborah Birx, U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator & U.S. Special Representative for Global Health
  • Kitty van der Heijden, Vice Minister for International Cooperation, Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs (TBC)
  • Peter Sands, Executive Director, The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria
  • Vicky Okine, Executive Director, Alliance for Reproductive Health Rights, Ghana
  • Khuat Thi Hai Oanh, Executive Director, The Center for Support Community Development Initiatives (SCDI) Vietnam
  • Wanja Ngure, PITCH Country Focal Point, Kenya
  • Jessica Daly, Director, Global Health, Medtronic Foundation

Additional speakers to be announced. Seating is limited, so RSVP early.
