Child Immunization in Jeopardy: Expert Perspectives from Around the World
November 16, 2021

Since 2020, UNICEF and WHO have been highlighting the severe disruptions in routine immunization for children as a result of the pandemic. At one point in 2020, 80 percent of all routine immunizations were halted. While things improved since then, a very recent survey by WHO, UNICEF and Sabin Vaccine Institute found that 1.4 m fewer doses of DTP3 vaccine were administered between January 2021 and April 2021. This is due to a variety of reasons related to the pandemic: parents’ reluctance to visit vaccination centers, limited public transport, lockdown measures, physical distancing policies and health care worker hesitancy. According to UNICEF and WHO, it is urgent that the world collectively restores and revitalizes routine immunization services.
Please join us on Tuesday November 16, 9-10:30 am US EST to hear from providers in the field, as well as experts from the U.S. government and the private sector about their experiences and innovative strategies used to reach children and their families with routine immunization services.
Featuring a conversation between U.S. Congress’ first elected pediatrician, Congresswoman Kim Schrier, MD (WA-08) and Dr. Smriti Mathema, Nepal Pediatric Society
