On September 24th, join us for a high-level panel dialogue between civil society leaders and global health stakeholders to discuss the critical need to invest in children’s health and pediatric surgical care to achieve UHC and advance global progress on the SDGs.

Pediatric surgical care is an essential part of child health and Universal Health Coverage. Every year, 5.4 million children under the age of 5 die as a result of mostly preventable or treatable conditions—this is 15,000 children each day. Many of these deaths are attributable to conditions which could be treated with surgical interventions—in this era of unprecedented action on global health, however, 2/3 of the world’s children, most of whom live in low– and middle-income countries, still lack access to safe, affordable surgical care. Living without access to these essential and cost-effective health services means that conditions like cleft lip and palate, hernias, appendicitis, burns, and injuries and trauma can quickly become life-threatening. No child should die or live with a permanent disability because of where they are born. No parent should have to watch their child suffer because they cannot access or cannot afford surgical care in their own community.

Panel discussion cocktail reception to follow.
