Bridging the Gap: Global Collaboration for Group A Streptococcus Vaccines

May 20, 2025 @ 8:00 am10:00 am

Group A Streptococcus (Strep A) is a major global health concern, responsible for a wide range of diseases – from mild infections to severe invasive diseases like rheumatic heart disease and acute rheumatic fever, which cause serious health complications and death and disproportionately affect low- and middle-income countries. Despite this burden, the development of a Strep A vaccine is lagging and faces scientific and regulatory hurdles.

Advancing critical dialogue and collaboration on Strep A vaccine development, the International Vaccine Institute (IVI), in partnership with the Government of Sweden, Government of the Republic of Korea, Government of Malawi, and Government of Kenya invite you to a breakfast meeting on the sidelines of the 78th World Health Assembly.

This in-person side event will bring together health officials, policymakers, researchers, and global health stakeholders to discuss actionable steps to:

  • Understand the global burden of Strep A, including the use of surveillance and diagnostics.
  • Share country experiences addressing Strep A.
  • Mobilize global investment and coordinated action for Strep A vaccine development, including the Strep A Vaccine Global Consortium (SAVAC 2.0) initiative.
  • Strengthen international partnerships.

Join us to contribute to shaping the global roadmap for Strep A prevention and vaccine development.
