Agile Global Governance: International Cooperation, Artificial Intelligence, and Public Health

May 20, 2020

RSVP

The rapid development of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) signaled a new inflection point in human history, accompanied by calls for agile and adaptive international governance of these new fields of research. With the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic however, there is a new focal point in the call for ethical governance.

How have international institutions used AI in their responses to the pandemic? Has this new stress to the system highlighted the need for more agile global governance when it comes to emerging technology? Or, has international governance of AI and other emerging fields of research been set back by the pandemic?

To share his knowledge on all of these issues, CCEIA is very pleased to have Wendell Wallach, Carnegie-Uehiro Fellow at Carnegie Council, as our honored speaker in a virtual Zoom conference on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 from 12:00 to 1:00 pm to discuss “Agile Global Governance: International Cooperation, Artificial Intelligence, and Public Health” with Carnegie Council President Joel Rosenthal.

Wallach is a consultant, ethicist, and scholar at Yale University’s Interdisciplinary Center for Bioethics. He chaired the Center’s working research group on technology and ethics for 12 years. Wallach is also a senior advisor to The Hastings Center, a fellow at the Institute for Ethics & Emerging Technology, and a fellow at the Center for Law, Science & Innovation at the Sandra Day O’Connor School of Law at Arizona State University. Additionally, he is a lead organizer of the first International Congress on the Governance of Artificial Intelligence.

Please join us for what is sure to be a fascinating and memorable conversation. You can register for the event on Zoom here.
