Around the world, 5 billion people lack access to safe, timely, and affordable surgical care. In many countries, up to 75% of cleft surgeries are delivered by NGOs, highlighting the fragility of surgical access and the need for sustainable, locally led solutions.
On Sept. 23, Operation Smile, in partnership with Devex, will host a high-level conversation on the future of surgical equity. The session will explore how cleft care can serve as a gateway to stronger health systems, spotlighting locally led programs, workforce investment, and data-driven strategies that make surgical care scalable and sustainable.
You’ll hear from:
- Dr. Ruben Ayala, chief policy and advocacy officer, Operation Smile
- Dr. Françoise Mukagaju, consultant plastic surgeon, King Faisal Hospital
- Dr. Opoku Ampomah, director, National Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burn Centre
