Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide, yet survival rates vary dramatically —  exceeding 90% in high-income countries but falling as low as 40% in parts of sub-Saharan Africa. These stark disparities are often driven by persistent challenges in early detection, timely access to care, and systemic barriers that continue to put women’s health and lives at risk.

On the afternoon of September 23The Pfizer Foundation will convene government, health system, and civil society experts to explore how community-led, multisector partnerships are helping transform breast cancer care in Rwanda, Ghana, Tanzania — and beyond.

Drawing on early lessons from Action & Impact: A Cancer Care Initiative by The Pfizer Foundation, the discussion will highlight how locally driven models, developed in collaboration with ministries of health, are helping strengthen timely diagnosis, treatment, and care for women.

Hear from:

  • Darren Back, executive director, global health investments, The Pfizer Foundation.
  • Debora Bossemeyer, senior vice president, global programs and technical excellence, Jhpiego.
  • Nadine Karema, executive director, Partners In Health Rwanda.

Together, they will examine the patient journey in lower-income settings, strategies for scaling effective care models, and how sustained cross-sector collaboration can help build stronger, more equitable health systems.
