2024 Annual Report

This may be the last Global Health Council (GHC) annual report that reflects U.S. global health leadership as we’ve known it. In next year’s report, the section on the United States will look markedly different. Changes in funding priorities, governance structures, and political will are reshaping the landscape. But even as the nature of U.S. engagement evolves, GHC’s commitment to global health, and to this community, will not waver. In fact, it is more resolute than ever. Our community will need to stand up and push back on these short-sighted and ill-conceived actions. GHC is ready to take up that charge.

Before that, though, it is worth reflecting on what we achieved in 2024. It demonstrates what is possible when our community comes together. For example, through efforts like the AIM grants and the launch of a new Working Group, we sought to elevate global health equity. Our World Health Assembly delegation helped ensure civil society voices were reflected in major policy decisions, from the WHO’s new General Programme of Work to the Pandemic Fund’s funding priorities. In the U.S., we educated members of the administration and Congress on the most pressing global health issues and pushed back on harmful budget cuts.

As we look toward 2025 and beyond, we are preparing for a transformed global health environment, one that demands new strategies, broader coalitions, and unwavering advocacy. We are working not only to defend the foundational elements of global health assistance but to adapt to what U.S. leadership can and should mean in this new era. That includes advancing equity-centered policies, amplifying civil society voices, and building a global health agenda that is inclusive and resilient.

With gratitude and resolve,

We would like to thank our donors for their unwavering support. Your funds help to ensure GHC can continue the important work of advocating for global health priorities.
