The theme of this year’s workshop is learning about the current use of advocacy, social mobilization and health promotion in Community-Based Primary Health Care (CBPHC) in international health. In the first hour we will give an update on the progress of our review on the Evidence-Base for CBPHC in child health. Findings and recommendations of the meeting of the Expert Committee guiding this study with their widespread implications for child health will be reported. The remainder of the workshop with focus on building the skills of participants in the areas of advocacy, social mobilization and health promotion as applied to CBPHC through active participation in group exercises. These exercises will be led by Janine Schooley and Blanca Lomeli, who both work for Project Concern International and have decades of practical experience applying these skills in developing countries. Lunch time and end of day activities will also be facilitated to allow the maximum networking and discussion between participants both those experienced in the area of CBPHC and those new to this area. CBPHC is now an area with increasing prospects for young professionals and major donor interest. Those interested in international CBPHC are also invited to attend our business meeting on Tuesday 28th October at 5.00 pm in Room 25A at the San Diego Convention center. Young professionals are especially encouraged to attend.
