National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness Day Briefing:Positively PowerFULL: Young People Building an AIDS Free World
April 16
9:00 AM – 10:00 AM
Rayburn Building
Washington, DC

RSVP by April 13

To celebrate National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness Day (NYHAAD)’s sixth year, Advocates for Youth will be hosting a Congressional Briefing in conjunction with the office of Rep. Barbara Lee. Our panel will discuss the work that has been done for NYHAAD, and share concrete steps that policymakers can take to ensure that young people can lead healthy lives, and be empowered in the face of HIV. One in five new HIV cases in the United States are among people ages 13-24, and many young people do not have access to the prevention and care tools that they need to lead healthy lives. For the past several years advocates have worked to prioritize young people in the national HIV & AIDS response.

The briefing will also cover topics about the current state of the HIV & AIDS epidemic among young people in the United States, the role the criminal justice system occupies in this conversation, the importance of breaking down stigma, and how young people can be key partners with governments, schools, organizations, and communities in the fight against AIDS. Breakfast will be served at 8:45 AM. Please email to kamilah@advocatesforyouth.org for any questions.
