Health Culture and Communication in
Global Health Symposium
September 10th – 12th, 2014
Health culture and communication is increasingly recognized as playing a critical role in successful global health efforts. However, there remains significant room for enhancement of best practices, standards, and education/training. To that end, the Center for Disaster and Humanitarian Assistance Medicine (CDHAM) will host the “Health Culture and Communication in Global Health” symposium to:
- Share and discuss CDHAM findings and products regarding health culture and communication in global health efforts including understanding the health context, understanding health-specific cultural considerations, understanding cross-cultural health communication, and optimizing the use of health interpreters.
- Share and discuss current practices and advances in education and training from leading experts from the health culture and communication community.
- Discuss potential consensus Standards and Best Practices for addressing health culture and communication considerations in global health efforts.
- Develop a community of interest for further/future collaboration in health culture and communication in global health.
The symposium is open to military, government, and civilian subject matter experts and global health practitioners engaged in advancing health culture and communication considerations in global health efforts.
