Caring for Millions:
Lessons from India’s Health Care Challenges and Solutions
November 4, 2015
9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Faculty House, 64 Morningside Drive, New York, NY
Access. Affordability. Quality. These are the primary challenges for any medical system. But in India — home to one-third of the world’s poorest people — the imbalance between resources and need is especially acute.
This November, for the first time, the India Business Initiative at Columbia Business School will bring together CEOs and leaders of India’s top healthcare organizations to debate their most pressing problems and creative solutions. Among the topics they’ll discuss:
— In a country where hospitals account for 71 percent of healthcare expenditures, how can India move from “sick care” to preventative and wellness care?
— What tactics work – and don’t work – to ensure levels of use (rather than overuse or underuse) of pharmaceuticals and medical procedures?
— How can successful innovations be scaled up to serve millions of people?
Confirmed speakers include:
— Balram Bhargava, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi
— Glenn Hubbard, Columbia Business School, New York
— Donald Landry, New York Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center, New York
— Nachiket Mor, CARE India; Reserve Bank of India, New Delhi
— Thulasiraj Ravilla, Aravind Eye Care System, Tamil Nadu
— K. Srinath Reddy, Public Health Foundation of India, Delhi
— Ashok Seth, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi
