35th Anniversary Celebration and Global Health Council Lifetime Achievement Award

Join us as the Council celebrates 35 years as the premier annual event in global health. To top off the evening, we will honor a special friend who has been there from the start. Prof. Carl Taylor is the recipient of the inaugural Global Health Council Lifetime Achievement Award for his dedication to improving the health care of the world’s most marginalized people through innovative and sustainable community-based interventions.

One of the founders of the National Council for International Health, which evolved into the Global Health Council he has dedicated his life to improving health care for the neediest and most marginalized. During his long and fruitful career, he served in India as director of Memorial Hospital and then as head of a preventive social medicine department at Christian Medical College in Ludhiana, India. He was a leader in institutionalizing international health at the university level, as the founder and first director of the Director of International Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

From 1984 through 1987, Dr. Taylor served as UNICEF director for China. Prof. Taylor continues to teach a course at the Bloomberg School. To this day, he is an ardent supporter of community-based primary health care as a path to health equity, principles he helped established within the Alma Ata Declaration in 1978.
