Child Survival Call to Action Celebrates One Year Anniversary!

“In June 2012, the United States joined UNICEF and the governments of Ethiopia and India in a bold pledge to catalyze action toward ending preventable child deaths within a generation. What emerged from the Call to Action was a rejuvenated, global movement for child survival under the banner of “Committing to Child Survival: A Promise Renewed.” Since then, 174 governments have renewed their promise to children by pledging to redouble efforts on child survival, and country-led summits have been convened in Ethiopia, India, Zambia and DRC. More than 400 civil society and faith-based organizations as well as over 2,000 individuals have also pledged support, joining the global movement to end preventable child deaths.

As we mark the first anniversary of this historic Child Survival Call to Action, this special event will take stock of what has been accomplished so far and what remains to be done in order to meet this ambitious goal. Momentum, particularly in the last 1,000 days of the MDGs, must remain strong to accelerate gains and to realize our common goal of ending preventable child deaths.”
